Votive Candleholders

Votive candles are one of the event planner's best friends because there are so many opportunities to incorporate them into a decorating scheme. Although they are not very large votive candles can be easily and cheaply replaced when the wick burns out. With so many kinds of votive candleholders available, tea lights can be spread around the house or place of business for all to enjoy. Many savvy crafters line votive candles up in a row to illuminate certain areas like a walkway or buffet table. Others prefer the appearance of a single speck of light perhaps placed in the centre of a café table. Votives are so efficiently sized that they even work on a book shelf, fireplace mantle, work space, reading area or bathroom.  In most cases votive candles and their respective candleholders provide a shimmering glow that can only be compared with that of fairy lights. The many different kinds of votive candleholders include glass, scented, romantic, lanterns and ceramic.

Glass Votives

Glass votive candleholders are popular due in part to the property of translucent glass which throws light through crystalline prisms. The chemical structure of glass lends itself to being a votive candleholder very well.  Glass can be manufactured into a myriad of interesting shapes to hold tiny candles. Glass seashells can hold a candle and work well with a seaside theme. Other glass votive holders imitate the many facets of gemstones. Cubist candleholders are modern and sleek. While glass bowels can be used for votive lights or floating candles.

Scented Votives

The pleasing aroma of a scented candle is supposed to be very relaxing. Many votives come with their own scents and they should have a special candleholder that reflects this smell. Lavender is a popular flavour that inspires feelings of relaxation and hominess. A purple candleholder with a lavender sprig motif is perfect for lavender votives and it will remind people what scent it is without having to get too close. The same could be said for rose scented votive candles which would do well displayed in a candleholder made of pink or red coloured glass.

Romantic Votives

Candles and candleholders are always romantic, especially when they have been lit. In this way romantic refers to the bohemian style that compliments the country cottage or shabby chic way of decorating. A glassware cone surrounded by fluttering laser hearts or butterflies is a perfect example. Distressed white and cream coloured votive holders bear patterns with names such as cava round, nett medallion, love bird, festive star, diamond, fleur and metal frost. Candle cages are an excellent way to incorporate votives into a decorating scheme while trapping them in a tiny prison of metallic vines and flowers.

Lantern Votives

Lantern votive candleholders are a vintage throwback that still works with today's home décor. The symbology of a lantern is difficult to define but could mean something about faith or hope. When not being carried by hand one typically expects to see lanterns hanging from a high point such as a shepherd's crook or tree branch. When equipped with a lit votive candle the oft glow acts as a homing beacon for human eyes and errant moths. Lanterns also look incredible, on or off, when lining a garden path or while resting on a flat surface in the home or office.

Ceramic Votives

Ceramic votives have a structure that is similar to glassware except more opaque. The form and functionality of a good piece of pottery has been passed down through the generations. Now we know that ceramics make excellent votive candleholders. They provide a sturdy and traditional look that compliments any cottage theme, especially when paired with a striped or checked table runner. For every kind of pot or vase there can be a similar votive holder. The lotus leaf or scroll grey Celtic knot are classical options that match nearly anything, and everyone likes flowers in different colours.
