Framed Canvas Sandpipers

This one’s for the beach lovers - our Framed Canvas Sandpipers is a coastal artwork we’d love to see in every home. The gallery-style piece comes in a thin wood frame and features an acrylic painting of sandpipers at the shore with those softer pastels that work well against neutral walls or seaside spaces. At 60x60cm, it fits comfortably above headboards, over a console table or even as a standalone feature on entryways if you’re styling up shop.

We’ve noticed something about our canvas range, and especially this one – Framed Canvas Sandpipers – it attracts a pretty dedicated crowd and has moved steadily since we introduced it. The appeal is probably how quiet it is as a piece - there’s nothing crazy or bright, but at the same time, there’s so much movement and action happening. The sandpipers can be picked out quite easily with the contrasting white shades - a bit different from their natural brown feathers. We particularly like the added definition with the brown outline, and then everything else just sort of melts into the background with those pastel watercolours. We’ll be honest - birds can be polarising, but with these birds, it’s less about the bird itself and more about how they move across the sand. There are several ways retailers have presented these in store - some pair them in sets against our other seashore pieces, others just let them stand alone by themselves for those buyers who need a singular talking point. The sandpiper painting falls somewhere in between being loud as an accent piece and quietly melting into any background. One thing we have found is that a lot of people relate to pieces like this - even if they aren’t nature lovers or know anything about birds - because they seem familiar. Our research tells us that it’s often that idyllic childhood memory of being on a beach somewhere as children - watching these fast moving birds across sandbanks - or even those who have seen these funny things scuttling across a shore. It’s widely appealing simply because so many people associate happy memories with it. As a painting, this stands out for its refreshing take on perspective - traditionally paintings are drawn from above or straight forward at eye level; this one is as if you’re sat on the beach watching these little birds scurry on wet sandbanks looking for crustaceans. It isn’t photo realistic either but there’s something so endearing about having them outlined in white paint and then moving upwards into watercolours of beige. This is pretty calming as far as paintings go, but would make an interesting addition to any wall regardless of what mood you’re setting for your customers. We highly recommend pairing this alongside your other soft natured paintings. Or even just letting it speak for itself amongst sharper pieces that will contrast against its softness. The mounting is also noteworthy here. This design has been set against a thin wooden square frame (comes pre-threaded too) with nothing else to take attention away from the painting itself; this particular painting uses canvas stretched taut over wood painted over with acrylics. Since each piece is hand finished you might notice there are slight variations in brushstrokes or paint along the canvas. Since these are made by hand using traditional brush techniques and not printed machinery, you’ll notice these inconsistencies quite quickly but that also adds to its character and makes every piece slightly different from each other- perfect if someone wants to create an entire gallery wall off of similar styles but not repeat patterns.
